Define the workflow

Document where data enters, which system should be the source of truth, who acts on it and where errors are most expensive.

Keep customer experience and operations connected

Fast checkout or attractive storefront design does not help if inventory is wrong, fulfillment is unreliable or staff must manually reconcile orders.

Platform questions

Ask whether the capability is native, app-based or external; how data syncs; what it costs; and what happens if the integration fails.

Where Shopify fits

Shopify covers many core commerce workflows and can connect online selling with additional channels and operational tools. Exact capability varies by plan, market and integration.

Next step

Use the operational requirement as a filter when comparing ecommerce platforms. If it is mission-critical, test it before migration or launch.
